A typical stranding operation of aluminum conductor wire in the form of overhead transmission and distribution cable is described. The new electric butt weld cold upset method is described in detail. Pictures of test specimens and test results are shown. The benefits of the new method are increased productivity, reduced scrap losses, reduced man-hours/unit of production, reduced operating cost, and savings to both producer and consumer.
