Description
This paper summarizes the results of a recent study undertaken tocomprehensively characterize the influence of test temperature on thecyclic fatigue and fracture behavior of high carbon steel wires. The wirespecimens were cyclically deformed at temperatures ranging from -40° Cto 100° C. The influence of test temperature and stress amplitude on thecyclic fatigue and fracture behavior was established. At all temperatures, features representative of ductile and brittle fracture mechanisms wereevident, indicating semi-ductile behavior.
