The LEVITATION CASTING process–current results and future outlook

$15.00

This paper provides a description of General Electric Company’s new continuous casting method, the LEVITATION CASTING Process, which uses an electromagnetic levitation field, instead of a mold, to support and contain a column of solidifying material. The Process provides high casting speeds and excellent control combined with smooth, continuous emergence of solidified product from the top of the casting chamber. The cast product is highly suitable for immediate drawing or other forming operations without the need for hot rolling or other costly additional processes.
