Since the early days of the wire industry, the making of a satisfactory package of wire, either for shipment to a customer or for further in-plant processing has been a constant problem. Before the advent of large rod bundles, the problem had not arisen, as only small finished coils of wire were possible and methods of achieving heavy weight bundles had not been explored due to small rod weights, the necessity for manual handling, and low die life.
