This paper is an attempt to explain the issue of quality assessment of low-carbon wire rod and wires using cold work resistance as a measure. It analyzes the drawing process with regard to breakdown ability at the die, drawing stress, and the effect of the mechanical deformation scheme on plasticity. It formulates six conclusions that justify the need for quality assessment of fixed wire rods.
