An electrolytic method for the identification and measurement of oxide film thickness is described, and examples of its use as a predictive quality assurance tool are given. The chemical and mechanical removal of oxide, conversion of oxide, and prevention of oxide formation are discussed. Applications of the test for analysis of wire breaks and evaluation of the pickling process are presented.
