In the third part of a series on springs the characteristics required of wire spring materials are discussed, and various production methods are described. The types of wires considered include steel wires (Bessemer wire, music wire, oil tempered spring wire, annealed high carbon wire), alloy steels (chrome-vanadium and silico-manganese), and nonferrous alloys (brass, monel metal, nickel silver, beryllium copper).
