The influence of heat on support rollers and the influence of proper setup and alignment on support roller and circular bearing stranders are reviewed. It is concluded that use of rollers sized for both heat and stress, development of the necessary maintenance skills to achieve correct alignment, provision of adequate foundations, and adherence to a regular preventative maintenance program will improve the life performance of either type of strander.
