A heat-resistant Al-Zr-Y conductor developed by Sumitomo Electric for power transmission lines is discussed. Addition of Yttrium (Y) provides conductivities greater than 60% IACS and eliminates power loss problems experienced with Al-Zr alloy, leading to reduced cable size and installation costs.
