The longstanding association between the insulated wire industry and Underwriters’ Labs Inc (UL) is reviewed from 1912 to the present. UL has assisted in the development of many new designs and types of insulating materials through the efforts of the UL Industry Advisory Councils. Some aspects of inspection and quality control are also discussed.
