A cost saving system is described for degreasing wire nails by washing them in a hot vapor chemical bath of trichlorethylene. Principles of thermal exchange are used to conserve cleaning solvent and the cooling water used for its recovery. A Chem-Clean installation at Northwestern Steel & Wire Co is described.
