This paper explores the innovative use of color-changing pigments as a means of detecting potentially hazardous electrical conditions in wire and cable. Overloads, frayed conductors, loose or corroded connections, and failing splices all have the potential to cause serious damage to property and equipment and carry the risk of human injury. The paper covers pigments, including their chemical nature, applications, and trigging temperatures in the extrusion, injection and/or inking processes of insulation or jacketing.
