The wire department at Bethlehem Steel’s Los Angeles plant is now 29 years old. A natual outgrowth of this modest yet important age has been the loss of many talented workers in the past few years. Attrition of many kinds — retirement, long-term illness, and promotion — had effectively reduced the numer of well-experienced wire drawers, the harest of all of our different skills to replace. Wire drawers are made, not born, and it takes time to make them.
