The technology of plasma and combustion coating processes are introduced, and application of these coatings to wire machinery is discussed. Plasma-applied tungsten carbide over an intermediate sprayed layer of stainless steel improves capstan slip and life. Silicon, boron and titanium carbide powders for use on ferrous wiredrawing machine components are also being developed.
