Description

This paper describes the process of rope production from historical and current perspectives. Essentially, methods by which wire rope is manufactured have not greatly changed over time. Chemical composition, transformation heat treatment, and deformation strengthening have reached their limits in increasing tensile strength without reducing ductibility of elasticity. Microalloying is a process being employed to achieve properties in steel wires which will allow further improvements in rope wire.
