Description
Many applications of steel cord require that the cord be periodically loaded in an axial mode. The useful life of this cord is significantly increased when the internal contact stresses between individual wires in the cord are reduced. A modification to the cord’s geometry which includes a small flat spot on a wire located at the point where it contacts another wire results in this reduced contact stress. This paper presents a method which predicts substantial contact stress reductions as a result of this cord design modification. The results of this method are evaluated.
