Rimmed steels have a great flexibility of applications, being largely used in the wire industry. However, for some applications they show several restrictions related to inclusion level, properties, segregation and surface quality. The technical advances in continuous casting process allied to modern wire rod rolling mills made possible the development of new kinds of steels which can replace rimmed ones in a great number of applications, with quality and economical advantages.
