Cable manufacturers are unlikely to invest in new machines unless these bring clear benefits in quality and efficiency. In view of increasingly tough competition, it takes more and more significant improvements in new machines’ key characteristics—such as build quality, output, and operating costs—over the current standards to justify the replacement of existing or the purchase of new equipment. But with the high build quality and production output of today’s machines, this is proving an increasingly difficult proposition.
