The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s research and development program for the control of industrial air, water, and solid waste disposal pollution is described; metal finishing research goals are included. In plant changes, simple and economical wastewater control technologies, system upgrading, solutions to metal finishing sludge problems, centralized treatment, and control of volatile organic compound emissions are considered.
