Equipment considerations for high pressure extrusion

$15.00

High discharge pressures in the extrusion process can adversely affect several aspects of extrusion equipment and reduce the capacity of the extrusion process. Aging or poorly maintained equipment is particularly prone to potential failure. This paper considers the effect of high discharge pressures on the extruder gear box safety factor, thrust bearing life, pumping capacity and extrudate quality. Consideration is given to screw and barrel wear, grooved feed sections, melt temperature and screw design.
