Machinery used in the fatigue testing of rod and wire is discussed. The rotating-strut testing machine for testing straight wire, the vibratory (constant strain) machine, and a high-speed rotating-cantilever-beam machine for testing machined specimens are described. Test methods, examples of results, and the correlation of results from different machines are discussed. Samples tested include steel rod, brass rod, and bridge wire.
