A study is described in which three commercial 18/8 stainless steel wires were subjected to cold reduction, then tested for effects on tensile strength, resistivity, and magnetic properties. The wire went from its initial non-magnetic state to a ferro-magnetic condition following cold reduction; tensile strength and resistivity also increased.
