Description
Residual stresses arise as a consequence of the inhomogeneous plastic deformations associated with cold drawing and may influence the mechanical behavior of wire and its durability. This paper summarizes attempts to obtain accurate measurements and simulations of the residual stress profile developed in cold drawn eutectoid wire. Residual stresses have been measured in wire subjected to different treatments by neutron, synchrotron, and X-ray diffraction. Also, numerical simulations have been performed.
