Ansonia Copper & Brass, Inc. has been operating a 4,500 metric ton Schloermann Indirect Extrusion Press in the manufacture of copper alloy rod since 1980. The Ansonia, CT operations produces over 50 alloys of copper utilizing this hot metalworking process. Prior to the 1980’s, indirect extrusion in the United States was commercially utilized only in smaller production operations and specialized aluminum extrusion due to design constraints which have been overcome by equipment manufacturers.
