Description
Loss of ductility is experienced in steel springs when the coil spring is dynamically strained or deformed. This phenomenon, known as dynamic strain aging or blue brittleness, occurs in steels with interstitial elements such as carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen. To combat the blue brittleness, a patented coiling process and steel chemistry has been devised. The evidence shows a marked improvement in the productivity and performance of these high-carbon steel grades. An example of regulator spring is included.
