Description
Based on Belgo Mineira’s experience with microalloyed steels for fabricating 8.8 strength class non-quench and tempered bolts, a new steel was developed to reach a higher strength class. To obtain this goal several alloy additions were tried with the purpose of getting appropriate steel to reach the 10.9 strength class in the final product. Boron, chromium and boron plus chromium were added to the basic composition already developed for the 8.8 class. Several post-rolling cooling rates were also tested. This paper reports the obtained results on the wire rod and the properties after drawing of all combinations.
