This paper describes the limitations of the optimized sub-critical cycles in the continuous pusher furnace at Stelco’s Burlington Works. This furnace is a twin strand unit divided into seven zones, separated from each other by drop arches in the roof of the furnace chamber. A project was initiated to develop an above-critical cycle for spheroidizing and implement this cycle in the continous pusher furnace. Results are described.
