Tandemizing production processes is an emerging trend in optical fiber manufacturing. Advantages and challenges of combined coloring and proof testing process are discussed. The benefits include the elimination of one reel step and higher flexibility in machine use. Mechanisms affecting the reliability of colored fiber in cable are studied. Conclusions are drawn on proof testing fiber after coloring.
