The effect of boron on the properties of electric arc sourced plain carbon wiredrawing qualities

$15.00

Electric arc sourced wire rod is being used increasingly in areas in which basic oxygen (BOS) steels have been the traditional feedstock. In order to overcome the presence of higher residual and nitrogen levels, boron additions have been made to low carbon drawing quality rods. Boron additions are shown to be effective in producing a reduction in UTS of the rod of around 28 Mpa, but reducing UTS of the wire by up to 200 Mpa. In general, boron treated low carbon drawing quality produced from EAF steel can give wire tensile strengths.
