An historical narrative of the aluminum and aluminum alloy wire rod for electrical use, rod catching developments and significant design setbacks is presented. Schematics for automatic twin reel coilers, and operating characteristics are focused upon. Trends toward automation such as fully automatic banding, coil wrapping, palletization etc are mentioned. Future product reconfigurations are exemplified.
